President Macron’s remarks on Taiwan have attracted criticism as he urged the EU to achieve strategic autonomy by reducing its reliance on the U.S., and called for Europe to be a third power in the world order.
French President Emmanuel Macron spoke to Les Echos and Politico reporters, reiterating his vision of strategic autonomy for Europe, a goal of avoiding military and economic dependencies on other nations.
Following his trip to China, where he spent approximately six hours with President Xi Jinping, he called for Europe to be a third power, alongside the United States and China, in the global order.
