The French government has announced a **€400 million** high-security prison in French Guiana aimed at isolating drug traffickers and radical Islamists.

Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin framed the move as a method to sever criminal networks, using the remote Amazon jungle site to emulate colonial-era exile tactics and reinforce state control over organised crime.
