F ormer Labour MPs Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana’s attempt to launch a new left-wing party has plunged into open conflict, with rival statements, legal threats and accusations of sexism tearing the project apart before its first conference.
Disputed membership launch
The split surfaced on Thursday when supporters of Your Party, the working title of the new movement, received an email announcing the opening of a membership portal. The system offered an annual membership at £55, with a £25 concessionary rate. Within hours, Sultana claimed that more than 20,000 people had joined the movement.
She promoted the portal repeatedly on X, urging supporters to “be part of history” and dismissing critics as “rightwing bad faith actors” spreading disinformation.
Corbyn responded with an “urgent message” warning followers to ignore the site and cancel any payments. “This morning, an unauthorised email was sent to all yourparty.uk supporters with details of a supposed membership portal hosted in a new domain name,” he wrote. “Legal advice is being taken.” All Independent Alliance MPs co-signed his statement except Sultana.
