When Justice speaks, Power cries tyranny
Nicolas Sarkozy sentenced to five years for illegal Libyan funding as allies decry “judicial tyranny,” yet citizens dismiss their defence, seeing long-untouchable elites finally held accountable. | Today’s Political Cartoon.
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been handed a five-year prison term for conspiring to secure illegal Libyan funding for his 2007 campaign.
His defence team, supporters, and former party allies flooded television and newspapers denouncing the ruling as “judicial tyranny,” but they are, in fact, shielding him out of pure self-interest.
Contrary to their claims, ordinary citizens show little concern for Sarkozy or politicians like him, viewing the verdict instead as the elite finally facing the justice they deserve.
