A n investigation by the Good Law Project has uncovered that the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) wasted an astonishing £246.6m of taxpayers’ money. This was due to the procurement of 126 million COVID tests that were deemed “unusable”.
The information was obtained through a freedom of information request. It named six companies that supplied the unusable lateral flow and LAMP tests. Four of these companies were awarded deals via the secretive VIP Lane.
One such ‘VIP’ supplier was Innova Medical. They landed COVID contracts valued at £4bn via the VIP lane. This occurred after their UK partner, a company trading under the name ‘Tried & Tested’, contacted Boris Johnson’s former advisor, Dominic Cummings.
