FACT-CHECK

📌 1. The Claim

  • President Trump’s tariffs on global trade will not impact U.S. consumers.

📌 2. Origin of the Claim

  • On 12 March 2025, Trump, boarding Air Force One, declared that the U.S. would gain vast wealth from imposing hundreds of billions in tariffs.

It’s a tax on another country,” and “It’s not going to cost you, it’s going to be a cost to another country.”
  • Trump framed the policy as a strategy to boost national wealth without domestic cost, despite ongoing debates over the true economic impact of tariff measures on American consumers.
