The internal and external Democrats must overcome to win again

Democrats face internal disunity and reluctance to confront white demographic anxieties, threatening electoral prospects despite economic gains and local victories, while Republicans exploit cultural fears to consolidate support.

T he November elections across America gave Democrats a much-needed morale boost, and a much-needed validation that their politics is still viable in America.

But realistically, the voter frustration with President Donald Trump that is responsible for Democrats’ election successes last week won’t be enough to guarantee Democrats’ future election successes. Democrats have both an internal and external problem they must resolve, in that order, internal first, external second, before they can win enough local, state, and national elections that will give their politics a chance to govern.

The internal problem within the Democrat Party that must be resolved has two components, both of which are reflected in how Democrats treated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

After successfully leveraging federal government resources to restart the first-ever shutdown of the American economy due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic that was killing 3,000 Americans a day, after creating 16 million jobs, the most amount created by any one-term President in American history, after creating the lowest American unemployment rate in 50 years with the share of working-age Americans in the workforce reaching its highest level in two decades, and the share of working-age women in the workforce hitting a record high.

After producing a bi-partisan infrastructure law, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, that would add 1.5 million jobs per year for the next 10 years, spend $55 billion to eliminate all lead pipes expanding access to clean drinking water for all households, businesses, schools, and child care centers in America, spend $65 billion to provide internet access to rural and economically-challenged urban areas in America which currently have no access, spend $110 billion to repair or rebuild America’s roads and bridges, after stimulating 21 million new business start-ups, after stimulating so many record stock market highs that the Federal Reserve had to raise interest rates 11 times to keep the Biden economy from growing to hot, a glaring contrast to President Donald Trump currently asking the Federal Reserve to lower rates to stimulate his slowing tariff economy, and after generating over 1 trillion investment dollars in America’s private sector economy.

Democrats abandoned one of the most successful and productive Presidents in American history quicker than cockroaches fleeing to hide in a suddenly lit room, for looking like an 80-year-old, stutter-talking like an 80-year-old, walking like an 80-year-old while still being coherent and mentally competent, and for losing one presidential debate to Donald Trump. Ironically, Democrats point with pride to their authorship of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), but when Democrats abandoned former President Biden because he was not vigorous-looking enough, although he was functioning vigorously enough as President to produce historic results.

When Democrats abandoned Biden because of the way he walked after former President Franklin Roosevelt proved under the most dire circumstances of the Great Depression combined with America fighting World War II, that a President can be confined to a wheelchair not able to walk and still do a damn good job leading America and the world, when democrats abandoned Biden because his 80-year-old physical abilities no longer enabled him to hide his life-long stuttering affliction, and when Democrats abandoned him because the tone of his voice reflected his 80-year-old age, it was nothing less than Democrats inflicting age discrimination on Biden because his physical characteristics, not his mental characteristics, reflected his 80-year old age.

Also, when Democrats abandoned Biden over his Donald Trump debate performance, it was, as MAGA Republicans demonstrated they understood by continuing their support for Trump after he lost his debate with Kamala Harris, fool’s gold.

Because the most powerful person in the world, the President of the United States, never has to debate with anyone about anything as President. Which is probably why Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama all lost their first reelection debates but won their second debates, because after 4 years of hearing the reply “yes sir Mr. President, how high would you like me to jump”? It took their first debate to readjust to being challenged about anything. Even when a President meets with the second most powerful person in the world, the leader of China, Xi Jinping, if any debate is necessary, it is a debate that is well-scripted in advance, ensuring that the President will not be asked any questions or hear any comments that he or she does not have an answer for or a response to.

The only creditable question President Biden’s 80-year-old gait to his walking, his 80-year-old appearance, his 80-year-old inability to hide his stuttering affliction, his 80-year-old sounding voice, and his losing Trump debate performance should have raised for Democrats, is whether his current mental acuity, which was what was responsible for his then-current historic achievements not his walk, talk, sound of his voice, or debate acumen, will last for another 4 years.

That would have been the only question had Democrats not suffered from the first component of the internal problem they must overcome, a lack of political loyalty. If Democrats had shown the same political loyalty for the only Democrat, Biden, that former Republican President George W Bush, along with many others, said was the only Democrat who could have beaten Trump in the 2020 election, the same loyalty that MAGA Republicans have shown to a man, who as President, told all 50 U.S. governors in 2020 during the deadly COVID-19 virus that was killing 3,000 Americans a day not to expect federal government help.

The same political loyalty shown to a man credited with losing MAGA Republican control of both the House and Senate during his term as President, to a man impeached twice as President, to a man with 34 criminal convictions, 2 civil convictions for bank fraud, defamation, and sexual assault after serving his first term as President, and to a man who after losing the 2024 presidential debate to Kamala Harris so badly that he refused to debate her a second-time that MAGA Republicans, in the “Stand By Your Man” spirit of Tammy Wynette, showed when they stood by Donald John Trump all the way from his 2016 presidential election, his two impeachments as President, his 2020 presidential election loss, his criminal and civil convictions, and on through to his victorious 2024 presidential reelection.

Both Democrats and MAGA Republicans have an internal political loyalty problem they need to overcome. The problem difference is MAGA Republicans blindly follow the man, Trump, who delivered victory and defeat for them, and ask no questions. For Democrats, it was first asking the wrong question and then showing no political loyalty by refusing to follow the man, Biden, who delivered victory in 2020, and arguably was the only man who could have delivered victory in 2024, had he had MAGA-like political loyalty from Democrats.

Had Democrats shown the proper amount of political loyalty to Biden, the question would never have been who Democrats should replace Biden with; the proper question would have been who should Democrats replace Kamala Harris with??? The failure of Democrats to ask the proper Kamala Harris question was not only a lack of political loyalty to Biden, but it also reflected the other component to Democrats’ internal problem they must overcome to achieve future election success, political correctness.

Since Biden was achieving record stock market highs, historic low unemployment, passing historic bi-partisan legislation, maintaining peaceful relations with the world, and his only problem was Covid-related inflation, despite Republicans claiming “Sleepy Joe” was too old, out of touch, and not really running the federal government, no one repeat no one, was calling for Biden to resign or that his cabinet invoke the 25th Amendment and immediately remove him from office.

How could anyone want Biden’s immediate resignation or removal because of his age, when, by traditional judgment standards, the Biden administration was making historic achievements? The only thing left for Republicans to do was poke the Democrats in their 2 vulnerable spots:

1) Since he looks, talks, and walks like an 80-year-old, how long will Biden’s current mental acuity last?

2) Raise questions about Kamala Harris’s leadership ability.

Hence, one of the campaign slogans for the former 2024 Republican candidate for president, Nikki Haley, was, “A vote for Joe Biden is a vote for Kamala Harris”.

Since Biden’s age made many voters doubt his ability to serve out a 2nd 4-year term, American voters in 2024, for the first time in American political history, would have voted for or against President Biden based on who would be the Vice President to replace Biden if and when he had to resign for health reasons. Haley’s campaign slogan revealed a fact that political correctness either blinded or made Democrats fear acknowledging: a majority of Americans were never comfortable with Vice President Kamala Harris as President Kamala Harris!!!

For reasons ranging from legitimate political ideological differences, voters didn’t take the time to know her, illegitimate political bias, sexism, racism, to I just don’t like the way she laughs, there were never a sufficient number of Democrat, Independent, and swing voters comfortable enough with Vice President Harris stepping in to replace a resigned or removed Joe Biden, much less elect her President.

The most damaging negative against Harris was simply America not knowing of her brilliant leadership ability; she had only served in the U.S. Senate for 4 years with her only notable accomplishment being vigorously questioning Supreme Court nominee Bret Kavanaugh, only the state of California really knew her, which is why Republicans were successful at falsely portraying her to America in the 2024 election as a far-left transgender activist. Since the 1849 presidency of Zachary Taylor, America’s 12th President, there have been only two people with so little public service on the national level elected President: the once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon Barack Obama, who also served only 4 years in the Senate with no notable accomplishments there before being elected President, and the nationally known business guru Donald Trump, who served no time in public service before being elected President.

It appears high-profile Democrats George Clooney, James Carville, and Congressman James Clyburn, one of the Democrats who successfully persuaded Biden to pick Harris as Vice President, had doubts about Harris’s electability, but due to political correctness, were afraid to voice them or ask Harris to step aside. Because the successful game-changing op-ed Clooney wrote, asking and forcing Biden to step down, did not call for Harris to step up. Carville also called for Biden to step down and suggested Democrats should not nominate Harris to replace Biden, but instead follow Clyburn’s suggestion of holding a mini Democrat Party primary to determine Biden’s replacement.

All 3 of these Democrats appeared to have been looking for a politically correct way of saying they thought Harris would be a weak candidate. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez threw political correctness to the wind and released a video, before Biden withdrew, stating that in the same back-room conversations among donors and Democratic Party “elites” about Biden stepping down, “nobody” is talking about Harris stepping up.

According to the American Constitution, the position of Vice-President was created and exists for only one reason and has only one assigned duty: to immediately replace an ill or dead President of the United States. The fact that Democrats felt the need to even think or discuss who should replace Biden, when Harris was the sitting Vice President, means that there was widespread doubt about Harris’s electability among her fellow Democrats, and more importantly it means there was a preoccupation with political correctness about the first female and the first American Black elected Vice President, which blinded and prevented Democrats in 2024 from doing what Democrats did in 1944, make the hard and for many the politically incorrect decision to do what was best for maintaining political control of the White House.

In 1944, Democrats, and everyone else who had been in his presence at the time, knew for a fact what Democrats in 2024 only suspected was a possibility. 1944 Democrats knew if their leader, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, were reelected in 1944, he would die before his 4-year term expired. In 2024, Democrats weren’t convinced Biden would die, but at the same time, they were almost certain his mental acuity would not last for another 4 years.

Also, Democrats in 1944, like Democrats in 2024, had a historic first-time Vice President who was surrounded by questions about his electability to be president. Knowing that Roosevelt’s death was certain, and also knowing that his hand-picked Vice President Henry Wallace, a man Roosevelt liked and thought had served him well as Vice President, had electability issues 1944 Democrats, unlike 2024 Democrats, showed political loyalty to Roosevelt and disregarded the political correctness of Wallace being the first Democrat-Socialist elected Vice-President, by forcing Wallace to not run for reelection as Roosevelt’s vice president. 1944 Democrats, with no hesitation, disregarded any political correctness related to Wallace and replaced him with Harry Truman, a popular and nationally trusted U.S. Senator, to ensure the Democrat Party’s continued political control of the White House.

Vice President Harris not having a nationally known brand among American voters is the reason why she was never electable as President in 2024. The vote totals tell the story: fewer women voted for her in 2024 than did vote for Biden in 2020. It’s also the reason that Donald Trump was the first Republican in 20 years to win the popular vote, his 2024 popular vote total of 77,00,628 was over 2 million more popular votes than his losing 2020 vote total, but was over 4 million votes less than President Biden’s 2020 popular vote total of 81,282,632, lastly, it’s the reason why Kamala Harris’s 2024 popular vote total of 74,670,992 was less than 500,000 more votes than Trump’s losing 2020 popular vote total of 74, 223,234.

Had 2024 Democrats been focused more on winning like the 1944 Democrats were, and less focused on doing the politically correct thing regarding the first female and the first American Black elected Vice President, like 1944 Democrats were less focused on doing what was politically correct regarding the first Democrat-Socialist elected Vice President, it was very possible Democrats could have won reelection in 2024 like Democrats won reelection in 1944. Unfortunately, 2024 Democrats weren’t politically loyal and were too politically correct, which cost them the ultimate prize, political control of the White House.

After overcoming their internal political loyalty and political correctness issues, Democrats must then focus on overcoming their external issue.

Because all the major elections Democrats won last week had the issue of affordability as the common denominator responsible for their victories, Democrats now feel they have discovered the winning formula that will guarantee their future victories. Unfortunately for Democrats, long-term, running on the affordability platform will only guarantee spotty victories here and there across America, much like running on the repeal of abortion has produced only spotty victories here and there, and the amount of spotty wins for Democrats on affordability will depend heavily on how Republicans respond or do not respond to Democrats’ affordability offensive.

The true game changer for Democrats that will generate the multiple wins of local, state, and national election victories necessary to govern again, will only happen when they address their external problem, it’s the same external problem which was the other common denominator that each one of last week’s winning Democratic candidates deftly avoided in their campaigns. Democrats not only won last week by focusing on affordability, they also won by not focusing on the main cultural issue that’s on the mind of every non-racist American White. Whether they admit it or not, any discussion of cultural issues for most American Whites is non-racist code for “what does it mean that American Whites will no longer be the majority population in America”?

It’s the question Democrats are failing to provide the right answer to!!! It’s the external issue Democrats must confront and overcome; if they do not now or in the immediate future, winning back the White House will be impossible for at least the next 20 years. It’s the question that every new government policy, President Trump implements, every new executive order he issues, and all of his immigration policies are tailored to negatively manipulate. American White’s fear or anxiety over potential cultural or economic retaliation, due to racial population change in America. They all convey the same message: American Whites, I am your protector against racial population change in America, and only I am willing to make America great again by keeping America culturally and majority white.

President Trump’s routine manipulation is to stoke an imaginary crisis that the future people-of-color population majority is seeking to replace or remove traditional American culture, then announce a new government policy or issue an executive order that prevents replacing or removing the threatened American culture. e.g., Last year, during his 2024 campaign for President, Trump proclaimed, “We have languages coming into our country. We don’t have one instructor in our entire nation that can speak that language. These are languages; it’s the craziest thing, they have languages that nobody in this country has ever heard of. It’s a very horrible thing”. Ten days after being sworn as President, President Trump signed and issued Executive Order 14224, titled Designating English as the Official Language of the United States.

Instead of Democrats proposing any policies, executive orders, or immigration laws, Democrats have a habit of implying racist intent in the heart or mind of American Whites who express fear or anxiety over racial population change. While it’s true that 10-15% of American Whites do have racist feelings about American Whites losing their majority population status, nothing could be further from the truth for the remaining 90-85% of American Whites.

3 scientific studies of both American Whites and Canadian Whites, a study of American Whites led by Professor Maureen Craig of Duke University, a study of American Whites led by Professor Amy Krosch of Cornell University, and a study of Canadian Whites led by Professor H. Robert Outten of Trinity College, all concluded and proved that as the white population decreases and people of color population increases it creates great non-racist anxiety among both American Whites and Canadian Whites. All 3 studies demonstrate that the anxiety is not the traditional racial prejudice, of whites fearing the end of society because inferior or sub-human people of color are becoming the majority population, or MAGA’s Great Replacement Theory. The 2 American studies reveal that the American White anxiety is over how a new people-of-color majority in America will racially treat a new American White minority population.

Not an unreasonable fear or anxiety to have in a nation where, just a little over 60 years ago, before the Civil Rights Movement, the color of one’s skin determined one’s fate, a person of the Jewish faith had to change their Jewish-sounding surname to avoid religious persecution and discrimination, and American citizens where placed in concentration camps during World War II simply because of their Japanese ancestry.

In Professor Craig’s study, she had a group of American White participants read a summary from the U.S. Census Bureau projecting that American Whites would soon become a minority population. After reading this, the group showed a greater preference for their racial group, responding positively to statements like “I would rather work alongside people of my same ethnic origin”, and they felt less warm feelings toward other races.

According to Craig, the results suggest that “a sense of a zero-sum competition between groups is activated,” when people hear about the rise of one group, they automatically fear it will mean a decline in their own. Craig found that exposure to the census report caused American Whites to be more politically conservative on a variety of policies like affirmative action, immigration, defense spending, and health care reform. But most importantly, Craig discovered that these shifts were not just limited to American Whites who believe in white supremacy, as co-author of the study, Yale psychologist Professor Jennifer Richeson says, “The point is that people who think of themselves as not prejudiced and liberal demonstrate these threat effects”.

Democrats can start addressing the fear and anxiety by making it clear to American Whites that the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles and programs Democrats promote are not only designed to protect, enhance, and include only some people of color, but the DEI programs Democrats promote benefit American Whites as well because American Whites are people-of-color too, the white color!!! DEI programs do not confront or stop racism and discrimination; that’s the job of the U.S. Department of Justice or the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. DEI has nothing to do with who is hired or who is fired; that’s the job of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management or, in the private sector, a human resource manager.

The purpose of DEI is to foster an environment or create a government policy where all races, cultures, genders, religions, ages, political affiliations, and sexual orientations are both respected and included. President Trump falsely presents DEI as something designed to exclude or replace American Whites. Democrats must make it clear to American Whites that President Trump is misleading them because the ultimate goal of DEI is 100% INCLUSION of all individuals regardless of race, religion, no religion, political affiliation, sexual orientation, or age. The concept of exclusion or replacement is antithetical to the DNA of true Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Democrats might also consider following President Trump’s lead on making English America’s official language. It would be a small price to pay, which would ease the anxiety of many American Whites who are noticing the growing number of TV commercials for traditional American products that are filmed in America, broadcast on American public, cable, or streaming platforms but are spoken in a language they don’t understand, and it would also indicate to anxious American Whites that no matter how many Bad Bunny’s perform an American Super Bowl halftime show in a foreign language, there are some American cultural traditions, such as what language indicates American citizenship, that will never change regardless of which race, religion, or ethnicity is America’s majority population.

In 20th-century America, jim crow racism legally and spiritually denied American Blacks access to the American Dream. It wasn’t until the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which made American Blacks’ inclusion in the American Dream a legal requirement, that American Blacks felt the American Dream included them. In 21st-century America, American Whites, primarily due to anxiety over future racial majority population change and lack of federal government trust, fear their traditional inclusion and access to the American Dream will be taken from them.

If Democrats want to win again, like President Trump, their politics and policies must address the fear or anxiety that the changing racial demographics are having on non-racist American Whites. But unlike President Trump’s politics and policies, which evoke the negative emotional and psychological fear of racial population change, Democrats’ politics and policies must evoke the positive emotional and psychological hope of cultural inclusion due to racial population change. Failure of Democrats to do so will mean increasing numbers of American Whites who are experiencing anxiety or fear will hold their noses, suppress their misgivings over the economy, ignore what they know in their hearts to be un-American, and vote MAGA every time!
